“IF”: A Trend Follower’s Mantra

A homage to Rudyard Kipling

If you can trade with calm while crowds are trembling, And stick to rules while others chase the wind; If you can hold through storms that feel unending, And trust the plan you’ve faithfully designed. If you can see your system draw down sharply, And still not flinch or second-guess the trend; If you can smile when outcomes turn out harshly, And know that discipline will win in the end—
If you can risk your stake on just one breakout And not regret the whipsaw you endure; If you can bear the pain of drawdowns shaking And still believe your edge remains secure. If you can trend with patience, not prediction, And see your path through chaos, calm and clear; If you can meet the crowd’s wild contradiction And hold your course without a trace of fear.
If you can cut your losses, let gains wander, And never anchor to a price too tight; If you can float through panic, news, and thunder, And keep your stops in view, but out of sight. If you can stay the course when most go flailing, And find your fortune where the tails extend, Yours is the outlier, and all within it— And—what is more—you’ll be a Classic Trend Follower, my friend.
