“Metals Explode and the Barometer Surges to Very Strong as Trend Conditions Accelerate“

Trend Following Weekly Report

Metals exploding. The barometer surging. Trend conditions accelerating. The recovery is decisive.

The final week of February delivered the most constructive combination of performance and environmental improvement since the start of 2026. Metals dominated. The barometer broke higher. And systematic fund performance surged.

Silver exploded 12.42 percent higher, the single best performer across all 49 assets and the strongest single-asset move of 2026 to date. Platinum surged over 9 percent. Gold extended to fresh all-time highs above $5,296. Copper added 2.73 percent. Palladium rose. All five metals positive for a second consecutive week. A clean sweep with conviction. The most powerful sectoral performance of the year.

But the metals story was only part of the picture.

Heating oil continued its extraordinary run with a 7.59 percent gain, extending last week’s breakout. Back-to-back weeks above 7 percent. Crude oil advanced across both benchmarks. The petroleum complex is now firmly trending higher. Energy delivered a second consecutive positive week, confirming the re-establishment of opportunity.

Grains posted a fourth consecutive positive week. Soybean oil led at 4.30 percent. Rough rice bounced sharply after last week’s collapse. Corn, wheat, soybeans, and soybean meal all advanced. Seven of eight components positive. The agricultural rally continues to broaden.

Bonds resumed their advance after last week’s brief pause. The 30-year bond gained 1.26 percent. All four maturities positive. The consolidation proved temporary, exactly as the prior report suggested.

Equities were mixed. The Nikkei surged 2.73 percent, but US indices were narrowly negative. The Russell 2000 and DJIA led the declines. European indices consolidated near recent highs.

Soft commodities remained the weakest sector on aggregate. Cocoa crashed another 9.13 percent, falling below $3,000 for the first time since 2023. But orange juice bounced 6.80 percent, providing a glimmer of stabilisation after weeks of relentless decline.

The TTU Trend Barometer surged from 45 percent to 61 percent. Very Strong. Rising Moderately. A 16-point improvement in a single week. The most significant advance since late January. The critical 55 percent threshold has been reclaimed with room to spare. More than two-thirds of the decline from the January peak of 68 percent has now been recovered. The environment has shifted from neutral to very strong. This is not tentative stabilisation. This is decisive recovery.

The SG Trend Index advanced to +3.46 percent MTD. Year-to-date performance climbed to +8.33 percent, extending what is already an exceptional start to the year.

This was not a rotation week. It was a confirmation week. A week where performance and environment moved together in the same direction.

For systematic trend followers, the message is clear. Metals trends are accelerating. Energy trends are maturing. Bond trends have resumed. Grain trends continue to broaden. The barometer has surged back into favourable territory. The divergence between strong fund returns and weak trend conditions that was flagged as unsustainable has resolved in the best possible way. The environment has risen to meet the performance. The two are now aligned.

Metals lead. The barometer surges. Conviction accelerates.
